Join us for an educational session at Kaicycle Urban Farm Newtown where we discuss the benefits of using a Bokashi or 'pickling' system for your household or workplace!
While food waste is an increasingly big issue in general, as a nation we create 40 percent more food waste during the festive holiday season. From office parties to family gatherings, the holidays are often synonymous with abundance, especially when it comes to food. A significant portion of excess food is likely to include inediblefood scraps such as meat scraps, seafood/fish waste, bones, shells, citrus peelings etc. which are likely to end up in landfill if they can't be composted.
Setting up a bokashi can help support the diversion of these scraps that would otherwise end up in landfill. So if you're new or just want to come along to troubleshoot bokashi and composting general, we'll be covering in this session:
- ideas to reduce food waste
- pros (and cons) of using a Bokashi system
- how to set up and maintain a Bokashi system within your home and/or workplace
- how to use finished Bokashi, including how it can create and maintain nutrient rich soil.
You will also go away with a sample of Pickled Composting Flakes to try at home to kickstart your pickling journey!
